00:00:00.240 Trivia's got a new single, Bury Me with
00:00:02.480 My Screams. Let's get into it.
00:00:08.880 In a nutshell, I would say that it is
00:00:11.920 the most thrashy song Tribium has done
00:00:14.559 in a very, very, very, very long time. I
00:00:18.480 have been with them since Ascendy, way
00:00:21.199 back in what was the year? 2005.
00:00:25.039 Okay, before you comment below, Derek is
00:00:29.760 not saying he was a part of the band. He
00:00:32.640 was saying that he was merely a fan of
00:00:35.200 the band. Thank you for all the fish.
00:00:38.559 Carry on.
00:00:39.600 They got me with that album. The record
00:00:42.320 that I really, really, really like is
00:00:44.800 the Crusade. I think it's a badass
00:00:46.960 thrash record. Clean vocals on the
00:00:49.680 Crusade. Amazing, amazing record. soup
00:00:53.360 the nuts and then after that it kind of
00:00:56.480 trivium kind of lost me a little bit. I
00:00:59.039 think Matt Heathy got explored got away
00:01:01.840 from the roots a little bit and this
00:01:03.600 record is an epic journey. They've
00:01:05.760 certainly gone through a few different
00:01:07.119 phases and all that and on one hand I
00:01:09.439 think that's awesome because I love that
00:01:11.360 people are willing to explore as a fan
00:01:13.680 sometimes like you're saying you know it
00:01:15.680 doesn't always scratch the itch that you
00:01:17.119 want from any particular band but this
00:01:19.280 track this track is just like top tier
00:01:22.560 trivia to me. Soon as the the the track
00:01:25.119 opens up I thought oh man okay this is
00:01:27.680 what I want right here. Yeah, it's
00:01:29.840 guttural, you know, it's riffy. It's in
00:01:32.960 your face. Weird timing, odd timing
00:01:35.439 patterns on some of the drum beats,
00:01:37.040 which I know you probably
00:01:39.360 made the your nuts, the hair on your
00:01:41.439 nuts stand up. I've had a lot of
00:01:43.280 comments on your nuts, by the way,
00:01:45.520 from people in my circles. But, you
00:01:47.840 know, in the end of the day, it's a
00:01:49.600 little bit of a return to form. I think
00:01:51.119 that that's been a theme this year. A
00:01:52.960 lot of bands that kind of disappeared
00:01:54.799 for a while or explored different
00:01:57.360 avenues are kind of getting back to
00:01:59.280 their roots a little bit and hitting
00:02:01.200 hard.
00:02:01.840 Yeah, it's it's a it's a killer track.
00:02:03.759 The guitar riffs in it are are just
00:02:05.840 they're crusher. They're fast.
00:02:08.520 [Music]
00:02:16.640 I know Corey, the other guitar player
00:02:18.879 and and backing vocalist, he brings a
00:02:20.959 lot of the death metal and and real
00:02:22.879 heavy influence into the band. So, I
00:02:25.360 think he and Matt working together are
00:02:28.000 just, like I said, if this track is any
00:02:30.160 indication, this is going to be a pretty
00:02:32.080 crusher album. And Alex, the drummer, is
00:02:34.959 he's top tier. He's fantastic. And his
00:02:36.800 drum parts on this are so good. He they
00:02:39.680 do fun stuff with time and slowing tempo
00:02:41.920 down and picking it up. And Alex does
00:02:43.840 some really trick stuff that makes some
00:02:45.920 of those tempo changes sound even more
00:02:48.480 confusing. Even though I I wouldn't call
00:02:50.400 them confusing, but they're just
00:02:52.160 intricate. They're they're really really
00:02:54.080 cool, really detailed.
00:02:56.120 [Music]
00:03:05.040 And it's interesting too because we just
00:03:07.040 talked about the deaf tones recently and
00:03:09.120 they just put out the milk of the
00:03:10.319 Madonna and you know it's for them
00:03:12.640 that's a return to form. Trivia's
00:03:14.720 returning to form. Biohazard went back
00:03:16.800 to their riffy roots and it feels like
00:03:19.840 you know as the world gets a little bit
00:03:22.000 more strife and that's a great band by
00:03:24.879 the way. Strife is amazing. But as
00:03:26.720 there's a little more strife there's
00:03:28.480 weird bad going on in the Middle
00:03:30.799 East. It's stands the reason that metal
00:03:33.360 starts picking up on that strife and
00:03:36.400 getting aggressive and aggressively
00:03:38.400 talking about things in the world that
00:03:40.959 are not necessarily right. And uh I
00:03:44.400 think it's great. I think Trivia should
00:03:46.560 be at the forefront of returning to form
00:03:48.799 and you know beating people over the
00:03:50.640 head and laying some blood splatter out
00:03:52.799 there and it's great to have him back.
00:03:54.720 Did you dive into the lyrical content on
00:03:56.640 this at all? a little bit, but I I I
00:03:59.040 really just I've listened to it in the
00:04:00.879 car a lot. And I actually just went and
00:04:03.680 saw a friend of mine. Uh shout out to
00:04:05.680 Linda. She was a friend of my mom. She
00:04:08.159 recently got run over by a car.
00:04:10.000 Oh god. This Yeah, that's right. This
00:04:11.439 poor woman.
00:04:12.239 Yeah. And I went I went out to see her
00:04:14.720 just now and and I put it on repeat and
00:04:17.120 I didn't get into the lyrics, but I
00:04:19.279 found myself doing this while I was
00:04:21.199 driving and I haven't done that with a
00:04:23.360 trivia record in a long time. So, it was
00:04:25.440 cool.
00:04:25.919 Yeah. I was introduced to Trivia through
00:04:28.320 a friend of mine, uh, shout out John
00:04:30.080 Schaefer with the fantastic Orlando
00:04:32.080 based band Traverser. They played a
00:04:34.400 number of shows in Orlando. Uh, Trivia,
00:04:36.639 for those who who don't know, is an
00:04:38.080 Orlando based band, been around since
00:04:39.520 the early 2000s, and this is 10 god 15
00:04:43.040 years ago now going and seeing these
00:04:44.960 Traverser shows while they were opening
00:04:46.639 up for Trivia, who was definitely
00:04:48.240 growing. They were huge regionally then,
00:04:50.400 now they're, you know, nationwide.
00:04:52.000 They're killing it. You look at their
00:04:53.360 stream counts on Spotify, you know,
00:04:55.040 they've got tracks in the hundreds of
00:04:56.960 millions, at least over a hundred
00:04:59.040 million, which is insane. So, it was fun
00:05:01.440 to to know that I saw those guys when
00:05:03.520 they were a little more local, a little
00:05:05.120 more regional. And they were killing it
00:05:06.880 then. They were a little more, you know,
00:05:08.320 a little more metal corey, not as many
00:05:11.199 melodic clean vocals in this one as some
00:05:13.680 of the older stuff. A lot more of the
00:05:15.199 really aggro vocals, which I love. I
00:05:17.360 love the percussive rhythmic aspect of
00:05:20.000 his vocals. I think he does a great job
00:05:21.680 with the guttural stuff and of course
00:05:23.280 he's he's real solid clean singer too.
00:05:25.600 Fantastic talent. He also is really good
00:05:28.160 on SiriusXM's liquid metal. Some of his
00:05:31.039 shows where he kind of dives into the
00:05:33.600 depths of metal and gives the spotlight
00:05:36.000 to some unknown bands. Highly recommend
00:05:38.720 finding Matt Heathy on SiriusXM's Liquid
00:05:41.520 Metal and following his show when it
00:05:44.000 airs. Again, this is bad journalism and
00:05:46.320 we'll get into some of my bad journalism
00:05:48.160 before we leave this podcast in a
00:05:50.000 second, but but he is very good. Go to
00:05:52.560 sirusxm.com, find out when he's on and
00:05:55.520 make a note to take a listen because he
00:05:58.720 does really pay attention and the
00:06:00.479 smallest bands in the world get a chance
00:06:02.800 to shine on his show.
00:06:04.000 I think that's really cool, too. Like
00:06:05.600 when we have the opportunity to talk to
00:06:07.199 musicians, I love asking what they're
00:06:08.720 listening to, you know, what the most
00:06:09.919 recent piece of music they they put on
00:06:11.919 to listen to. It's fascinating. So, I
00:06:13.919 love when guys like Kefi get to do those
00:06:15.680 shows. That's what you're doing. You get
00:06:18.240 a an hour of whatever it is they're
00:06:20.639 into. And that's cool. It's a fun way to
00:06:22.400 peek inside somebody's head.
00:06:24.000 Absolutely. Real quick. So, our last
00:06:26.400 podcast I talked about David Gilmore
00:06:28.720 being a founding member of Pink Floyd.
00:06:30.800 So, I stand corrected. My apologies for
00:06:34.080 being a terrible journalist.
00:06:38.639 I am sorry.
00:06:41.039 Okay, that's it. That's all I wanted to
00:06:43.039 say to all the trolls and I apologize to
00:06:45.280 those who really really care about Pink
00:06:46.880 Floyd and for those who care about Sid
00:06:48.560 Barrett because that's a that's an
00:06:49.919 oversight on my part. So I apologize on
00:06:52.720 that. Yeah,
00:06:53.680 we're certain we're certainly human. We
00:06:55.199 didn't our fact checker didn't catch it.
00:06:57.520 It was terrible. You know, clear clearly
00:06:59.520 we've got to start paying the fact
00:07:00.880 checker.
00:07:01.440 Well, the bottom line is for me is back
00:07:03.599 to that. It's like for me, Pink Floyd
00:07:06.319 started and when you're, you know, 50
00:07:08.720 years into a life,
00:07:10.319 I forgot about, you know, the Piper
00:07:13.440 record. I just don't listen to it. I
00:07:15.599 don't even have it in my possession. I
00:07:18.240 don't think to listen to it. I listen to
00:07:20.160 everything Gilmore and on. Um, and
00:07:22.319 that's just my personal preference. So,
00:07:24.160 I actually had a mental block on that
00:07:27.440 record. And I forgot that Sid Barrett,
00:07:30.319 you know, was the singer and guitar
00:07:32.400 player on that record. I just didn't
00:07:34.800 remember it and I probably haven't I
00:07:36.880 haven't thought about it probably since
00:07:38.319 I was a teenager to be honest.
00:07:40.720 Yeah. Well, it was it was uh like you
00:07:42.960 said, it was an honest mistake. Stuff
00:07:44.639 happens. And you know, you were kind
00:07:46.080 enough to give that that thoughtfelt uh
00:07:48.479 heartfelt apology to to the commenters.
00:07:51.039 So, that was very sweet of you. Yeah. If
00:07:52.720 you've got any other things you'd like
00:07:53.919 to share with Derek, uh we'll post
00:07:55.840 Derrick's home address here at the end
00:07:57.919 of the at the end of the video.
00:07:59.199 That would be great. I'd love to get the
00:08:00.560 hate mail. Really, the thing is is you
00:08:02.800 told me about it. I haven't even looked
00:08:04.400 at the comments because I just don't
00:08:05.759 care. But I was like, you know what? I
00:08:07.360 feel bad that I anybody if they were a
00:08:11.039 fan of Sid Barrett, I owe them an
00:08:12.879 apology. Sure. You know, and and for
00:08:15.280 true Pink Floyd Floyd fans, I do owe
00:08:17.520 them an apology for just missing that.
00:08:19.919 But in the end of the day, the people
00:08:21.599 that are just trying to get under my
00:08:23.039 skin, it's not going to work. Don't
00:08:24.240 Well, you know, it's funny. It's funny
00:08:25.520 too because we, you know, doing this
00:08:27.360 podcast and and putting at the risk of
00:08:29.759 sounding corny or whatever, like putting
00:08:31.440 yourself out there and we do it,
00:08:34.320 millions of us do it all the time on
00:08:35.919 social media platforms, Instagram, you
00:08:38.479 know, face place, whatever. You put
00:08:40.399 yourself out there and and you really do
00:08:42.159 open open yourself up to be not a
00:08:44.800 target, but people are going to say what
00:08:46.880 they say. Mhm.
00:08:48.959 This this the whole talk reviews
00:08:51.360 thing over the past few years has been
00:08:53.200 sort of an interesting you know journey
00:08:55.680 through there through waiting through
00:08:57.600 the seas of social media cuz I have
00:09:00.160 largely always stayed away from it. I
00:09:03.440 don't understand it. I don't know how to
00:09:05.120 do it. This is the most social media
00:09:07.279 I've ever done and it has been a little
00:09:10.080 eye openening for me. Like I said, we're
00:09:12.399 very fortunate. There's so few people
00:09:14.720 who are interested in the stuff we're
00:09:16.320 talking about. It's not like we have an
00:09:18.240 audience of millions. We often have an
00:09:20.640 audience of ones. Uh, and that's fine.
00:09:23.600 That's fine because we're not doing it
00:09:24.959 for them. We're just We started this
00:09:26.640 because we love talking about music. So,
00:09:28.640 it's
00:09:28.800 Well, it's it is interesting that we've
00:09:31.839 consistently done this and now we're
00:09:34.399 starting to get comments. We get and we
00:09:37.200 joke that we've got three, you know,
00:09:39.120 folks.
00:09:40.080 Three listeners.
00:09:40.880 Three listeners. But we do get thousands
00:09:43.279 of people watching our shorts and you
00:09:46.080 know and so we starting to get those
00:09:48.320 comments and um and I you know again it
00:09:51.200 doesn't bother me. The positive doesn't
00:09:53.279 bother me and the negative doesn't
00:09:54.800 bother bother me. In the end of the day
00:09:56.720 I really care. There's about 10 people
00:09:58.399 on this planet whose opinion matters to
00:10:00.240 me and you're one of them John.
00:10:02.399 A thanks buddy.
00:10:03.519 Just so you know even though I really
00:10:05.440 don't like you very much. No,
00:10:07.120 your opinion matters. But you know, the
00:10:10.160 trolls is part of everything you do.
00:10:13.040 Whether you get up in the morning and go
00:10:14.640 to a real job, there's going to be
00:10:16.079 people that like you at work and there's
00:10:17.600 people who don't like you. And it
00:10:19.279 doesn't matter. And I think that one of
00:10:21.279 the things that I love about metal is
00:10:23.600 that it's honest and it's real. And what
00:10:26.320 you learn is is that, you know, to be
00:10:29.600 hardcore, to be whatever it is, to be a
00:10:32.240 badass, you really don't give a
00:10:34.640 Lemie didn't give a Dio didn't
00:10:36.560 give a Azie didn't give a
00:10:38.800 They all didn't h they did not give a
00:10:40.959 but they let their creativity do
00:10:43.360 the do the talking. And so for us, you
00:10:46.160 know, this is as creative as I can get.
00:10:47.920 You're way more talented than I am
00:10:49.360 musically and everything else. Um I'm
00:10:52.160 just going to let my voice and whatever
00:10:54.160 my thoughts are do the talking and what
00:10:56.640 be what it may, I don't really care what
00:10:59.440 anybody else thinks other than those 10
00:11:01.680 the people that I that I care about.
00:11:03.920 Yeah. Well, it's a like I to wrap it up,
00:11:06.079 the social media sea is a dark deep
00:11:09.360 place and you're going to encounter all
00:11:11.120 kinds of people. And uh again, as as
00:11:13.200 we've said many times, you know, we just
00:11:14.880 do this for our for ourselves, for fun.
00:11:17.279 And uh you when you put it out there,
00:11:19.440 you kick the door open for people who
00:11:21.040 want to comment on it. And we could turn
00:11:22.320 off the comments, but why?
00:11:24.240 Yeah, we're not we're not going to do
00:11:25.360 that.
00:11:25.760 And again, any like you said, you know,
00:11:27.600 some of our our shorts and everything
00:11:29.360 are, you know, getting a couple thousand
00:11:30.720 views, which in the big picture is
00:11:32.160 nothing. But as the channel, the YouTube
00:11:34.720 channel has sort of grown a little bit,
00:11:36.240 more eyes, the al YouTube YouTube, the
00:11:38.320 algorithm knows sort of what we do and
00:11:41.519 so they know who to give it to because
00:11:43.120 of how the whole, you know, behind the
00:11:45.360 curtain business works with YouTube. So,
00:11:47.839 it's showing our ridiculous nonsense to
00:11:50.959 more people and that it's just the way
00:11:52.880 the machine works. Again, we didn't do
00:11:54.720 this to get thousands of views. We did
00:11:57.040 it just because we do it and you know,
00:11:58.959 we're idiots. So, it's uh it's funny to
00:12:01.519 see how people react to it. Some people
00:12:02.959 are really cool. I mean, we've had some
00:12:04.560 had some really fun interactions with
00:12:06.399 with commenters on YouTube here and
00:12:08.240 there, and this is just one where that
00:12:10.240 little bit of bad info got a lot of
00:12:12.320 people riled up.
00:12:13.600 Well, I will say that, you know, some of
00:12:15.279 these folks have become friendly. You
00:12:17.920 know, Joe Nally, you know, says likes
00:12:20.639 stuff on my own personal social media
00:12:22.800 accounts. You know, uh Eric from
00:12:24.880 Barbarians of California, you know,
00:12:26.720 we're working on getting them back on.
00:12:28.240 Eric's cool. like and so we've made
00:12:30.880 some friends I think along the way I
00:12:33.120 loosely you know have we hung out with
00:12:34.800 them in person no but
00:12:36.480 uh at some point we will and uh
00:12:39.120 you know so I think that that doing this
00:12:41.440 to do our little part to get a spotlight
00:12:43.920 on really great bands but also amazing
00:12:46.079 people makes it worth it and trolls you
00:12:48.800 don't matter
00:12:49.519 bullies aren't cool Derek
00:12:52.000 we need to put a little PSA in there
00:12:54.000 don't be a bully
00:12:54.959 unless it's to you know attack somebody
00:12:57.279 on talk reviews in which were kind
00:12:59.200 of asking for it, but that's okay.
00:13:00.800 Yeah. Well, I haven't on you, but
00:13:02.399 you know, your ears are getting bigger,
00:13:04.079 which you know what that says to me?
00:13:05.600 You're getting old.
00:13:07.120 Yeah. You know what else comes with
00:13:08.480 bigger ears?
00:13:09.279 Nose hairs.
00:13:10.079 No. Yes. Well, that's what we'll go
00:13:11.680 with.
00:13:12.880 All right. We'll leave the the talk
00:13:14.079 about pendulus organs for another day.
00:13:16.399 Good Listen to the new trivia
00:13:18.880 single. It's great. And hopefully they
00:13:21.120 come out with an album soon. See you
00:13:22.480 later.
